TFG & AquaVoda launch new filtration technology for the brewing industry

Silicone Carbide Filtration Technology for the Brewing Industry

TFG Group and AquaVoda were pleased to host members from the WA Brewers Association and the Institute of Brewing & Distilling at TFG premises in Welshpool on the 30th July 2021.

More than 25 members congregated, (with a bevy or two) to see a demonstration of new technology using Silicone Carbide filtration membranes that can be used for a range of brewing applications from CIP recovery to waste water processing. Mounted on TFG designed and fabricated skids, these modular systems offer a range of benefits to brewers of all sizes, particularly in trade waste reduction.

“Thanks TFG and AquaVoda for receiving the Institute of Brewing and Distilling in conjunction with the Western Australian Brewers Association to your fantastic premises and presentation. The technology is impressive and holds real value for our industry in multiple applications!”

Gage Roads Brewery Project Manager Dirk Penny

Filtration Technology

AquaVoda and TFG officially launched the new filtration technology at Ozwater ‘21, The Australian Water Association’s annual industry conference which was held in Adelaide in May. The filtration systems use silicone carbide (SiC) filtration membranes housed on modular, transportable skids. With reduced footprint and power consumption, coupled with an average 15 year lifespan and high pH, corrosion and heat resistance, these systems offer advanced filtration that may improve brewing output, reduce trade waste costs & increase CIP recovery.

Silicone Carbide(SiC) Membrane Skids
These systems are a unique solid-liquid separation technology based on Silicon Carbide (SiC) material and can be used to filter various contaminants from water such as:

  • Suspended solids
  • Bacteria
  • Yeast
  • Oils
  • Heavy metals

The filtration systems are used in potable, process and wastewater applications and are available in two configurations; flat-sheet and tubular.

Applications
Applications for the brewing sector include:

  • Filtration of feed water into the brewery
  • Pre-filtration for reverse osmosis units to prolong membrane life
  • Reduction of BOD and suspended solids for trade-waste compliance
  • Treatment of wastewater for irrigation
  • CIP recovery
  • Concentration of fermentation tank bottoms for reduction of disposal costs
  • Direct product filtration
  • Water re-use applications
