Client: Krones
Year: 2013-2015
Industry: Brewing
Location: South Australia
- MAJOR PROJECT TEAM
- PROJECT SCOPE
- SWAN BREWERY RELOCATION
- SAFETY FIRST APPROACH
Krones awarded TFG Group with the contract to install the new brewhouse at West End Brewery in South Australia. In a world first for Krones and Lion, the brewery stayed functioning without a single hour of lost production time outside of the seven week shutdown period. During this time, TFG worked with temporary pipe relocations to ensure vessels could be swapped out without disruption to existing operations.
- New brewhouse installation
- 6kms of pipework in brewhouse alone
- Strip out a part of the Swan brewhouse, relocate, reassemble and install
- Installation of automated ‘think-top’ valves
- Strip out existing brewhouse
- Temporary pipe relocation
A number of components of the new brewhouse were sourced from the old Swan Brewery site in Perth, refurbished, transported and installed at West End. Using their engineering and fabrication experience, TFG were able to cut lauter tuns vertically in half, transport them and re-join them maintaining a tolerance of less than 1mm in the strainer plates.
The West End brewery upgrade ran for two years with 35 specialised welders from TFG onsite full time. To ensure the safety of their employees, sub-contractors and operations staff, TFG employed a dedicated onsite safety officer to oversee the project. As a result, 68,000 man hours were worked with zero safety incidents, MTIs or LTIs. This safety first approach was particularly pertinent given that the total shut down time for the installation was only seven weeks.
