On behalf of the Gold Coast City Council, LC Water were engaged to decommission and refurbish the existing digester and pump room equipment at the wastewater treatment plant, 8km south of Broadbeach on the Gold Coast. The refurbishment included the installation of new biogas pipework, boilers, macerators, heat exchangers and pumping stations, plus all associated pipework, valves and flow meters. TFG Group were engaged by LC Water for the mechanical installation. Schedule 10 piping was used for the sludge and mixing systems, while AS 1528 seamless tube was used for the hot water system.
The project scope included the manufacture and installation of new biogas pipework for the plant. Biogas generation within wastewater treatment systems is a popular method of generating renewable energy for the plant. Due to the highly hazardous nature of the site installation, the pipework could not be welded in situ. TFG Group therefore used a stainless steel crimping method to safely install the biogas pipework.
TFG’s commitment to quality on this project ensured the installation was completed on time and on budget with zero safety incidents. Procedural certifications included welder qualifications and weld procedure documentation as well as materials and consumables certificates. The testing regime included non-destructive and hydrostatic test procedures with associated reports delivered on project completion.
